The House with a Clock in Its Walls
Ultra had the great pleasure of creating something “quite different” for kids of all ages – an immersive hybrid experience for The House with a Clock in Its Walls.
This part experience, part escape room installation had kids and adults alike wide-eyed while the rooms “came to life” with magical reactions right in front of them.
Ultra took over a 10,000 sq. ft. retail space at The Americana at Brand in Glendale. Guests were welcomed into an enchanted garden filled with Fall foliage, glowing jack-o-lanterns and custom artwork. The nine minute experience ushered groups into the house’s foyer where a suit of armor’s head would turn on its own, a stained glass window would change designs, clocks would spin and laugh and “Kitty”, the garden’s lion, would pass gas, a mixture of leaves and moss on the guests! The film’s magician advisor was also brought in on the fun as a mysterious projection that came through an “oil painting” to greet guests, perform magic tricks and send them on their quest.
Once the special clock was found in the foyer, guests would gain entrance into the secret library. This escape room portion of the experience had guests frantically searching for the hexed key to open the majestic cabinet and recite the incantation inside. Adding to the pressure, were spinning objects, flapping books, a giant purple snake attempting to the pry a door open and other fun special effects and scares.
Director Eli Roth and star Jack Black got in on the fun and stopped by to experience the magic as well.
The Magical Escape Experience hosted thousands of guests over a two week period, it was a blast!
